It's No Joke

The Beatles - I'm So Tired

I'm so tired, I haven't slept a wink
I'm so tired, my mind is on the blink
I wonder should I get up and fix myself a drink
No,no,no.

I'm so tired I don't know what to do
I'm so tired my mind is set on you
I wonder should I call you but I know what you'd do

You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got
for a little peace of mind

I'm so tired, I'm feeling so upset
Although I'm so tired I'll have another cigarette
And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid get

You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got
For a little peace of mind
I'd give you everything I've got
For a little peace of mind
I'd give you everything I've got
For a little peace of mind

[Monsieur, Monsieur, Monsieur, how about another one?]

goes well with this:

Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion.

Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow

I did google the next two lines but I recognized the poem:)
The Hollow Men, by T.S.Eliot.

Two of the greatest lines ever:

This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

nononononononononononono

it goes like this:

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

i certainly do not think that omitting two of the poem's lines contributes to it. the repetition here is one of my most favourite stresses to be found in a poem. :)

@ stuffedman

Ok, sorry:)
This poem should be made into a song.

no need to appologise:)
i would consider Lou Reed as a start:)
perhaps we should make a list and spam everyone included in it. like some freaky poetry guerrila:)

Er... I was thinking something like Dream Theater:)

do you suppose we could make a decent translation of that poem?

Hazel Baggins said...

@ stuffedman

Sure. All we need is a deadline:)

Try searching this blog for 'deadline':)

as someone said
I just love the deadlines, and the whooping sound they make when they pass me by:)

do you suppose we could probably discuss this through e-mail, here is hardly the most appropriate place for this?:)
